Did You Know...
The Sapulpa Refinery suffered a huge loss when the top head plate of an oil still blew off. The fire was contained by the fire brigade in the plant and the Sapulpa Fire Department furnished only one truck as standby. Oil fires at this time could not be extinguished but were contained to keep from spreading and left to burn themselves out. First estimates of the the damage were $200,000, approx. $3 million today.
